100 Books
Time to leave Alaska and those warm chinooks.
Hitchhiked to the desert to read a hundred books.
Cloistered with these women with exquisite looks
who were wise,
wise beyond their years.
Late at night talking Aristotle.
We were too old for spin the bottle,
But we didn't let that throttle
the passion for the truth,
probing new frontiers.

Carrying on so classically
Homer spun a story about the distant past.
I might have stayed in class tied to a mast.
How many more verses would it last?
The poem was long,
and it was all Greek to me:
ἄνδρα μοι ἔννεπε, μοῦσα, πολύτροπον, ὃς μάλα πολλὰ
πλάγχθη, ἐπεὶ Τροίης ἱερὸν πτολίεθρον ἔπερσεν,..σεν,..σεν
Euclid summed the squares; the proof was watertight.
When three sides come together and the angles right.
Making propositions on a Tuesday night,
The lines went on,
on endlessly.
